Carrie & Baylom

Hello,

We are Carrie and Bay. We met just a few years ago, but as mature adults, we both knew we wanted to have children and began trying relatively soon. Despite unsuccessful fertility routes, and knowing we want to be parents regardless, we are pursing adoption. We have made this process our priority, (and then the pandemic happened), so we plan to get married in the near future. As a teacher, Carrie has known several adopted children in her care, and it is always something she has considered. As a helper for his friend’s summer camps, Bay always enjoyed being around kids and coaching them through sport and play. We spend a significant amount of our free time at the cottage with Carrie’s niece (5 years) and nephew (4 years), and we would love to give them a cousin to play with.

We respect that making this decision for you may be extremely difficult, but we also feel hopeful that you will see the love your child will have in our care. We are fun-loving, affectionate, and kind-hearted people who are excited about the possibility of being parents.

About Us

We will be nurturing, loving parents and will love your child unconditionally for who they are, and who they become. We look forward to exposing them to as many opportunities possible and providing them with experiences that enrich their lives. We will be supportive and encourage them to be the best version of themselves and reach their potential. We are looking forward to making memories with your child, watch them grow and teaching them along the way. We will foster their interests (be it music, sports, arts) and help instill good values.

Carrie is from Irish/Canadian heritage and was born and raised in southern Ontario. Her teaching travels in Japan led her to teacher education in Ottawa, where she stayed. Her family is very close-knit and she has only one younger sister with two children. Carrie’s family is spread out between Toronto-Ottawa, with several members living in one small cottage community. Her dad is a great Irish joke teller, and her mom is the most patient and loving grandparent ever! Carrie has many friend groups and nurtures her relationships. She is always on the go, but always has time for a good hug! Carrie is very thoughtful, generous and hard-working. She will be a great mom.

Baylom is from Laos. He moved to Canada as a teenager and is the eldest of 6 children. His parents and most of his siblings live nearby. Bay is a man of many lives, from being a wrestler, scuba-diver, body-builder, saxophone player, studies in architecture, motorcycle racer, world traveler and cook. He is a natural athlete and is very youthful for his age (he attributes this to his Asian genes). Bay is kind, helpful, patient, and willing to learn to fix anything. Bay will be a great dad.

Together, we like to cook, go for bike rides, golf, check out local fairs/events, try new restaurants, and do things we haven’t done before. We look forward to raising your child and having them be part of the fun adventures we discover.

Our Home & Community

Our home is in a family-oriented suburban community in the west end of Ottawa. We back on to an elementary school yard and have access to several parks in walking distance. There is also a splash pad and a few large fields for sports. Our house is a comfortable 3 bedroom (1 ready to be decorated for your child) with a finished basement for play and a back yard. Our immediate neighbours are young families with kids ages 2-6. We like to host outdoor movie nights and bonfires for all these kids including Carrie’s niece and nephew. We decorate for all the holidays, and love celebrating with kid friendly events. Ottawa is a great city for a families, as there are so many events and activities going on for children. We look forward to taking part in many of these with your child.

Our Thoughts about Parenting & Adoption

We have a lot of first-hand experience of what it is like to be parents through Carrie’s niece and nephew. We babysit them on many occasions and have very close relationships with them. We also know that it takes a village to raise a child, and we are fortunate to have supportive and loving families.

We ensure your child will be in a space that is safe, clean, child-friendly and adapted to their needs.

As parents, we commit to having a safe, inclusive, and loving home. We promise to honour and celebrate you by sharing their life story with them. We look forward to nurturing their heritage and educate them as they age.  We are comfortable discussing any level of openness and relationship you may wish to have with your child.

Closing Thoughts

Thank you for considering us.

We look forward to being parents and having a family unit. We are so grateful for everything we have and we hope to complete our lives with a child.

With love,

Carrie + Bay
