Being parents is our greatest joy. Through adoption, we were blessed to bring our daughter Sophia home in 2018, and are excited to grow our family again. Our hearts are full of love and we hope to share that with another child!
We wholeheartedly support open adoption and look forward to where this journey will take all of us together as a new family. We have a special relationship with Sophia’s birth mother that continues to flourish, built on understanding, appreciation, and maintaining a healthy self-identity for Sophia.
Adoption made us parents and forever changed our perspectives, showing us the power of unconditional love and reminding us how miraculous life can be. We promise to raise our children in a secure home filled with love, laughter, and respect.

We met by chance in the summer of 2008 and learned we could take on the world together. Early on we faced many hardships and learned the importance of partnership & good communication to maintain a healthy marriage and conquer life together. Over a decade, we have built a strong, happy, and loving relationship that grows each day.
We love exploring and share a passion for food, travel, and adventure. We enjoy spending weekends at our family cottage and were even married on the dock in 2014. We knew right away that we wanted to start a family, and adoption made our dreams come true. Our greatest adventure yet, with one week’s notice we became parents to Sophia. Becoming parents was the best gift we’ve ever received.
Together we have balance, and each of us brings qualities needed to raise a happy, well-rounded child. We are mindful of the many distractions in the world today and feel one of the most valuable things we can give our children is time.
Chanele is a creative and deep thinker with a zest for life – forever up for a challenge or a problem to solve. She is a loving mother and loyal caregiver, always offering a shoulder to lean on, and ensuring everyone is looked after.
Early life was full of obstacles that helped shaped Chanele’s strong work ethic and determination to accomplish her goals. In recent years, Chanele has focused on simplifying her life to create balance and focus on what is most important – now working part-time from home, while raising Sophia. Chanele takes time off as needed to ensure stability at home. One of her favourite memories is spending a month at the family cottage and teaching Sophia to swim in the lake!
In her spare time, Chanele dreams up ways to accomplish tasks by getting her hands dirty – from drywall repair and woodwork, to sewing pillows. Chanele will take any opportunity to dance, everywhere and anywhere. Her passion for trying new foods and exploring different cultures is serious business.
Ryan would do anything for those around him and is happiest when surrounded by his tight-knit group of family and friends. He is a hands-on, loving dad who works hard to protect and provide for his family. His well-rounded and caring nature was greatly shaped by his ten summers at Kilcoo Camp, as a camper and counsellor. Growing up as the oldest of three boys also formed his strong leadership traits.
He is fortunate to have found his ideal career; one he enjoys, which also provides him the ability to maintain his priority to be present at home with Sophia & Chanele. Ryan’s loyal nature is shown by his continued support for his favourite teams: The Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Buffalo Bills. One of his favourite moments was bringing Sophia to her first hockey game, he smiled from ear-to-ear all day.
Ryan loves adventure and staying active with sports: weekly hockey, summer golf, tennis matches, biking on the local trails, running in the neighbourhood, and snowmobiling each winter. He also loves testing new recipes on the BBQ, exploring the city, or relaxing at the cottage.
Sophia is evolving into a curious and adventurous toddler, always smiling from ear-to-ear. Her happiness radiates around her; she loves to make people laugh, and makes friends wherever we go.
Her vibrant blue eyes, sensitivity, and outgoing personality are a beautiful reflection of her birth mother, whom we are lucky to have a relationship with and work together to maintain updates, visits, and connection. We celebrate Sophia’s Irish heritage in many ways at home and plan to travel to Ireland one day with her.
Sophia loves to dance ballet and sing all day long. She is happiest when playing outside, hanging out with her cousins, or visiting animals. Mornings at home involve cuddles with Daddy and making “coffee” in her play kitchen. Evening routines include swimming in the bath and reading her favourite book, Goodnight Moon.
We know Sophia will be a great role model to her future sibling(s) and help to provide a healthy relationship and identity with adoption. Sophia has truly enriched our lives and we know she will be a great big sister!
Our Home & Community
Home Sweet Home
We have lived in our mid-town Toronto home since 2015 and have been working hard to create a warm and happy place for our family. Our home is on a quiet street, just outside the downtown area but close enough to explore and be inspired by the big city.
The backyard is our favourite place for relaxing in the hammock, hosting family cookouts, games, gardening, and playing in the sandbox! Nearby playgrounds, waterparks, and bike trails keep us busy. From spring to fall, Ryan and Sophia share weekly bike trips through the neighbouring trails, yelling “Echo” under all the bridges.
Our street is full of young families with many annual traditions, like epic Easter egg hunts, summer Olympic Games, and Halloween parties. The neighbourhood offers a variety of community activities, libraries, and well-respected schools – all within walking distance!
Our home away from home – we are thankful to have a family cottage up north and a place in Florida to spend our time, exploring the great outdoors. Summers include water activities galore, campfire smores, and hiking to the lookout for sunsets. Winters are full of snow sports, good meals, and roaring fires. Our favourite season, Fall, brings out the incredible beauty of the changing leaves, crisp air, and famous family game nights.
Family & Friends
We are lucky to have an amazing support system of family and friends surrounding us, many living within walking distance. Our family is very supportive of adoption, works to stay educated for a healthy understanding, and are eager to welcome another child (or two).
Ryan is the oldest of three brothers in a tight-knit family, while Chanele is an only child. Sophia is lucky to already have four immediate cousins she can grow up with. We are very close to our family and spend much of our time together… cottage weekends, themed parties, birthdays, hockey games, vacations, summer cookouts, and more.
Our Thoughts about Parenting & Adoption
Ryan’s goal in parenting is to inspire our children to explore their passions, spend time outdoors, and focus on their mental health.
Chanele’s goal in parenting is to inspire our children to think outside-the-box, never take no for an answer, and pursue their dreams. Most importantly, she hopes to inspire them to choose a life that makes them truly happy.
Adoption has a special place in our hearts. Through both our family members and close friends we have witnessed firsthand the blessing of adoption, that love makes a family, and the special bonds created. We strongly support open adoption – and the importance of maintaining a connection and on-going contact with you – so our children will always know their story, be proud of who they are, and see how much love surrounds them.
We know adoption is complex and will always be supportive, caring, and willing to talk about the story of our children’s adoption. We believe in authentic beginnings: early and honest, age-appropriate conversations about adoption, as part of our everyday communication to build a healthy self-identity.
Our home is filled with laughter and respect for one another. We are committed to loving our children unconditionally, keeping them nurtured and safe. We promise to provide a stable and understanding environment that fosters independent thought. Determination and a healthy work ethic have helped us achieve a solid foundation for family life. We believe in instilling those values in our children so they too can accomplish whatever dreams they choose to follow. Our goal is to inspire individuality, helping each child find their own version of happiness.
Family bonding is an essential ingredient for us. We make the effort to stay connected, focus on family goals, and enjoy the special moments together. We understand the importance of routine and involvement in our children’s lives. Each night, we both make it a priority to have dinner together, followed by bath time and bedtime stories.
We want to be able to have an ongoing relationship with you, in any way you feel comfortable, while always respecting your level of openness.
We both truly believe everything happens for a reason and we embrace the journey that led us to adoption and potentially matching with you. We would love to connect and get to know each other better. Please feel free to contact us in whichever way you feel comfortable.
Sending our love – Ryan, Chanele & Sophia
