Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We would like to start by saying that we admire your strength and courage for taking this journey and choosing this path for your child. We cannot begin to understand what it takes to make such a difficult and life changing decision. We hope that we are able to bring you a sense of comfort and ease as you read through our story and get to know us a little better.
We met online in May 2009. After our first date, we both knew we had something special, and it wasn’t long before we moved in together. We bought our first home together in December that same year, got engaged in December 2010, and were married in April 2012. When we discovered that we were both afflicted with fertility issues, and conceiving on our own was not in the cards for us, we digested the news for a while, and then one day we were chatting about it, and one of us said, “what about adoption?”. It was clear that we were both thinking the same thing, because at that moment, we knew this was the path that we were meant to take, and never looked back! Life is a beautiful struggle! We are grateful to be on this journey with you, and in our experience, something beautiful follows in the wake of every great sadness.
We like to be silly sometimes, and we use humour with each other a lot! After all, laughter can sometimes be the best medicine! Music is a constant in our world – we both love to sing and dance, even though neither one of us can carry a tune or keep a beat to save our lives!
Both of us are creative in our own ways – I love to craft and I’m always learning how to make new things to decorate our home, or give as gifts. Derek has always loved working with his hands and is constantly learning new skills – building our home gave him many opportunities to expand his skill set and hone in on what he is best at – most recently he has been perfecting his carpentry skills – he built the beautiful custom cabinets in our kitchen, laundry and mud room!
For fun, we enjoy playing on our co-ed softball team, going for bike rides, taking our dogs to the park, and enjoying quality time at home. In the summer, we spend a lot of time outdoors and love floating around, or playing games in our pool.
Trista is without a doubt my best friend, my other half, and my biggest supporter. If you look up the name “Trista” in the Urban Dictionary, you will find a very accurate description of her. The words that I could use to best describe Trista are; beautiful, dependable, compassionate, patient, supportive, irreplaceable, loyal, reliable, caring, accepting, smart, determined, faithful, protective, dedicated, a leader, thoughtful, and above all, fun.
Whether Trista is at work, playing baseball, socializing with friends and family, or even crafting, she does so while exhibiting those attributes. With all of these characteristics, I know without a doubt that she will be an amazing mother to your child. Trista has been patiently waiting for the opportunity to devote her heart and soul to a little being, and pour out all the love she’s been storing up inside. There will be no shortage of cuddles, silly faces, and funny stories.
Derek is one of the most insightful and thought-provoking people I know. He is encouraging, calm, steady, free spirited, down to earth, easy going, and the yin to my yang! He has a smile that can brighten the gloomiest of days, and a laugh that is contagious!
Derek is very self-aware and makes friends easily – he’ll talk your ear off for hours if you let him! The most important thing to him is family – he spends a lot of time helping those he loves, and puts the needs of others ahead of his own. He will shape your child into a well-rounded, accepting and inclusive person. He will make your child laugh so much their cheeks hurt! He will always find time for the important things, as well as the fun things. He has a true heart of gold, and I have no doubt that he will be an amazing father with all the love and guidance he has to give.
We rescued mase when he was approximately 6 months old. He is a mixed breed, mainly a cross between a boxer and lab. He is a gentle soul, and has learned to become very patient since we welcomed another puppy into our family – his little bro Otis. Otis is a boxer who is almost 2 years old. He is full of energy, and absolutely loves his big brother, and being the centre of attention! To learn more about these two, and their relationship with each other, follow the web link at the end of this letter to see our full profile book!
Derek recently built our brand new home in lovely Lambeth. Together, we picked out a beautiful lot that backs onto a playground and park area, as well as a soccer field and baseball diamond. We loved this location because of all the amazing amenities right in our back yard! We designed a 2000 sq ft bungalow, with the help of Pinterest, and input from family and friends. We enjoy spending time in our beautiful new outdoor oasis in the summer time, and snuggling up indoors in the winter. We are absolutely in love with our new home, our neighbours, and our community!
Our core beliefs are acceptance and forgiveness. We will teach your child how to look within and always to love him or herself first. We think it is important to raise your child with a circle of as many family and friends surrounding them as we can – this includes your family, too, if that is something that you would like. We truly believe that the more people a child has in his or her corner, the better off they will be. With us, your child will have many people who love them and who they can trust, which will be important as they grow. We believe in speaking openly and honestly and always ensuring to put your child’s best interests above all else. We will raise your child to be mindful, and self-aware, and most importantly, to never be afraid to express him or herself. We want your child to explore the possibilities in life, to be comfortable with who they are, where they came from, and to know that they can always find someone to confide in with us.
We believe that adoption is a most beautiful blessing to everyone involved. All adoption plans are different, and so is each family, so we are accepting to any kind of openness that works for you. We would encourage an open adoption, with openness extending to both you and your family, but if this is not something that you are comfortable with, we fully respect that, and are excited to work with you on a plan that feels right! We recognize that it is often a tough road that leads us all to this point, but are so grateful that our paths have crossed, and would be honoured to be able to share our family with you.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us, and the incredible amount of love and support that are ready and waiting for you and your baby, not only through us, but through our family and friends!
We hope that you have found something in us that speaks to you, or that you at least giggled a bit at our humour! We look forward to the opportunity to meet you – we would love to learn more about you and discover what your hopes and dreams are for your child!
