We're writers and designers by profession and parents by adoption.

We became parents over a decade ago after a birth mother stumbled upon our adoption profile online and, in an instant, changed our lives forever.

At that time, the Internet wasn't anything like it is today. The only adoption networking websites were in the U.S. They were hard to navigate and even harder to find. But for hopeful adoptive parents from Toronto, Ontario who wanted more control over their search, the concept behind them was hard to resist: a chance to cut through the red tape and reach out directly to the people we were trying to connect with the most, families who were considering adoption for their child.

If nothing else, it gave us the sense that we were being proactive -- that our profile would be out there 24/7, at a place where people anywhere could view it. We figured we had nothing to lose so we registered with a website and then promptly forgot about it. Until late one night, a short time later, a young Canadian woman called to see if we were interested in adopting her baby.

Fast forward two years: ready to adopt a second time, we returned to the Net, expecting a more sophisticated, Canadian version of the website would have existed by then. It didn't, so we jumped at the chance to create one ourselves. After all, it worked for us. There was a good chance it would work for others too.

One idea we had tossed around was creating a guidebook. But books don't change; adoption, on the other hand, is always evolving. Today, more than eight years later, it's still evolving. And so are we. And yet some things about us haven't changed:

We're still a place where Canadians who are struggling with infertility or an unplanned pregnancy can meet with others just like themselves and share their stories without worrying about being judged or that their lives are being put under a microscope.

We're still a place where all members of the adoption triad from across the country can find Canadian-specific information and inspiration through a wide range of interactive resources, support networks and tips from the trenches that they can't find anywhere else.

And we're still a place where waiting adoptive parents can get the tools they need to create the family they've always dreamed of, quickly and conveniently. Think of us as a work in progress.
