SAMPLE DEAR BIRTH MOTHER LETTER

|
Thank you for reading our letter and for giving us
the chance to share part of our lives with you. A year ago, close
friends of ours went through an open adoption so we understand some
of the emotions you must be feeling. The decision you're about to
make is one of the most difficult you'll face, and we appreciate
you considering us in your adoption plan. We hope our words will
bring you a sense of comfort, strength and hope for the future.
We're Rebecca and John, and we live in Toronto. We've known each
other for 15 years and have been married for 10. We can't wait to
become parents and are looking forward to all the joys that parenthood
has to offer, whether it be playing in the park, sharing a ice cream
cone, going on picnics or playing hide and seek around the house.
Rebecca on John
John is the light of my life. He's warm, caring and has a great
sense of humour! When he was younger, he and his brother used to
do a stand-up routine at some of the local clubs. If he weren't
in advertising, I'm sure he'd make a great comic. Our nephews and
nieces, for instance, swear he's the best babysitter they've ever
had! And not only because of his famous Jim Carrey impersonations,
although I'm sure that has something to do with it.
John on Rebecca
What can I say about Rebecca? It's hard to know where to start. She's
kind, considerate and very talented. She's the type of person people
gravitate to. She loves to cook and her famous frosted chocolate
birthday cakes are always a hit with our nieces and nephews. Fights
have been known to break out over who gets to lick the bowl! Her
cakes are so good (this year's, for instance, was in the shape of
an octopus) that I'm always telling her to quit her job and start
her own bakery business.
About Us
Education is very important to us. I have a degree in English from
York University, and John studied politics and history at University
of Toronto. Both of us have taken various other courses over the
years to upgrade our skills and to enrich our lives. We intend to
pass on our passion for learning to our child. We both believe that
it's important to expose a child to as many different experiences
as possible and then to let him or her choose the things that he
or she likes best.
About Parenting and Adoption
All of us -- all five cousins, three nephews, four nieces and, of
course, our parents -- are looking forward to welcoming a new addition
into our home and our hearts. We plan to shower our new child with
all the love and affection we have to offer. Ideally, we hope to
have an open adoption. We want our child to grow up knowing that
he or she was placed by someone who cared for him or her very much,
someone who just wanted to give him or her the best life possible.
Our Home
Our house is located right in the middle of the city. Down the street
from us is a park, and just beside the park is a ravine, where John
and I often go for walks with our dog, Homer. We also have a cat,
Max, though he's not much of a walker, especially when Homer's around.
If you're looking for a loving, secure home
filled with laughter and happiness, we would love to speak to you.
Thanks again for giving us the chance to introduce ourselves. Whatever
you decide, we wish you and your baby the very best.
Best Wishes,
John and Rebecca
