Margaret, Peter and Julianna

Hello:

We are Peter and Margaret and we write this letter with the hope that you may begin to get a sense of who we are -- a friendly, loving couple who would make great parents for your child if you find yourself in a position where you may not be ready to or able to parent.

Peter and I always dreamed of marrying and having two children. When Julianna was born I saw the tears of happiness and love in Peter’s eyes which of course melted my heart.  It was at that moment that we both knew we wanted another child. Our whole family is excited at the idea of building our family through adoption including our daughter who can’t wait for a sibling to help care for and love. We go into this journey with open hearts and minds knowing we have a whole lot of love to give to a second child.  This child will be loved with every ounce of our being. Raising a child truly comes from the heart through understanding and supporting him/her throughout life.

About Peter
Gardening is one of my passions. Our house is known as the one with all the flowers! I encourage Julianna to love nature and have helped her grow eight foot tall sunflowers from seeds. I have even shared this passion with the Brownies volunteering as a special gardening guest where both children and parents learned how to plant seeds and watch them grow to everyone’s delight.

Yes, I am an older Dad, however I love children and I now have the life experiences, wisdom and patience to not overreact when things don’t go quite right. Kids need time and patience. As I am comfortable and established in my career, I now have the flexibility and financial security to really spend time with my children. I take Julianna to figure skating and swimming lessons. All the moms at swimming classes get a kick seeing me there and comment on how well I can deal with washing Julianna’s hair after swimming class -- which can certainly be challenging with long hair. Recently we have all taken up skating -- great exercise that we do together as a family. Julianna loves teaching Mommy and Daddy how to skate. I truly love being an involved parent in Julianna’s life. From the day Julianna was born it was my goal for her to always know I am her Dad and will be there for her forever.

About Margaret
Family life and giving back to the community are very important to me.

I love spending time with Julianna. Often chores/housework are left for another day (our house is our home -- a place to laugh and enjoy, not keep 100% immaculate) and we go for a bike ride to the park, read or maybe just cuddle. This is what being a parent is all about. I love seeing life through her eyes. She is currently interested in all types of bugs and loves to hold them!!

I have been a Girl Guide Brownie Leader (Starlight Owl) for over a decade. I love being part of an organization that encourages girls to make a positive difference in their lives and their community. I recently participated in a Girl Guide Science Centre sleepover with over 600 other Guides from across Ontario. I also photographed my Brownies all year long and presented them with a DVD to remember their year. I was recently awarded the Girl Guide Gold Thank You Pin for all my efforts.

Family is everything to me. When my nephew was born, my sister wanted me there and I drove immediately to the hospital two hours away. The first words out of my sister’s mouth when she awoke from the c-section were “I am so glad you are here.”  Recently, I made a cake just for my niece’s birthday. It had to be a pink tulip. I also put a special gift in the cake -- a necklace that surprised everyone. That afternoon I had taken both girls to the “big mall” for lunch and a little shopping trip. They selected clothes and then tried them ‘fashion show style.’ They also made a fashion show at home for everyone to see. It was truly a fun time for all young and old.

Julianna by Margaret and Peter
Julianna’s laugh is her personality. It is such a warm, sincere, spontaneous, heart filled laugh. Everyone says she is a beautiful, intelligent little girl. She loves being around other children and is known to give hugs as reassurance. She acts like the “mom” and truly loves it. She also loves to draw, especially pictures of her new sibling. Our home is decorated with all her artwork. Julianna has been playing the piano since the age of four. She truly enjoys it and  will go to the piano on her own to make up songs for us to dance to. Swimming is an activity she also enjoys and can now jump into the deep endand swim lengths without hesitation. This past year Julianna has also started figure skating and is trying to skate with one leg in the air. We are truly amazed at her accomplishments. She has also mastered getting ice cream at Grandpa and Grandma’s house even if she didn’t eat all her dinner!

Our Relationship with You
We are comfortable with an open adoption. You will be part of our extended family -- welcomed at birthdays and special celebrations. We want your child to know who you are. We understand that you may not be comfortable with this and would certainly consider alternatives based on your needs. We do want you to know that we will honor all commitments made to you. That is the type of people we are. Our door will always be open. You will always be welcome.

Our thoughts are with you,
Margaret and Peter.
