Hi,

We are Kelly, Paulo and Xavier. As we sit and write this letter we cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling at this crossroad in your life, you have a difficult yet courageous decision to make. We hope by reading our letter you can get some insight into our lives. We want to reassure you how much unconditional love ourselves; our family and friends would provide to your child.

About Us
Paulo and I have been together for nine years, married for five years. We are best friends and our relationship is based on trust, open communication, similar beliefs and family values. We became stronger as a couple during our first adoption journey, and have an amazingly strong bond with our son.

As a couple, and now with Xavier, we love the outdoors. We like to spend time at Algonquin Park and enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing, swimming, taking day trips to the zoo or local farm and attend local fairs, are a few of the things we like to do.

We are very close to our immediate families, and spend time with both regularly. Everyone loves spending time with Xavier.

We are blessed with happily married parent’s who set great examples for us, of long loving marriages. Integrating our two families Portuguese and Canadian has enriched our lives and our cuisines. We often celebrate major holidays with both families together. We also have many close mutual friends, most of which are married and have children ranging in age from three to 12 years.

About Kelly
Kelly is 34, has dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, is 5’7” tall and of average build. Kelly was born in Ontario. She has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh. She is a loyal friend and will sit and listen to a friend in need. Kelly loves to read, write and be outdoors. She loves animals and enjoys trips to the zoo.

Kelly loves children, and worked in a daycare part time during high school. Kelly is a terrific mom, she is patient, gentle and loves to teach Xavier new things; like numbers, letters, arts and crafts or just having fun playing. She gets a tear in her eye every time Xavier does something new. There is nothing more important to Kelly than making a great home for Xavier and to make a great home for another child.

Kelly has been with her company for 11 years, working her way up from reception to senior customer service representative.

About Paulo
Paulo is 35, has dirty blonde hair, hazel eyes, is 5’6” tall and of average build. Paulo was born in Portugal and came to Canada when he was eight. Paulo has a great sense of humor. He is very loyal and trusting and everyone loves him. Paulo enjoys doing renovations around the house. He also enjoys tinkering with cars, motorcycles and computers. He also loves the outdoors.

Although Paulo was not around children as I was early on, he is an amazing father, he loves to get down on the floor with Xavier, he has taken him under his wing and loves to have him by his side when he is working on projects, letting Xavier hold the screw drivers etc. He took Xavier to his first hockey game when he was just 15 months old, something he hopes to become a yearly tradition.

Paulo is a Network Security Administrator for an international company and has worked in the IT field for over nine years.

About Xavier
Xavier was just seven hours old when we first held him in our arms, his birth mom called us when she went into labour and we jumped on a plane to New Brunswick to meet her and Xavier. Meeting her has created a friendship, we share phone calls, letters and pictures on a regular basis.

Xavier is now 21 months old, has blonde hair and hazel eyes. Xavier is a very happy child and is always trying to do something to make us laugh. He is very energetic, rarely stopping to take a breather, he loves to learn and explore new things.

He is very helpful and loves to help Kelly empty the dishwasher or sweep the floor and loves to help Paulo with little projects. He is a very social child and loves to be around children. He is a great joy in our lives and is going to make a great big brother.

Our Home
We have a cozy three-bedroom home on a small quiet street with many young families. There are always children out playing hockey, skate boarding and riding their bikes. There is a park at the end of the street with a baseball field and playground. Our home has a nice sized backyard filled with toys and a kiddie pool.

Parenting
We follow a positive parenting style and believe giving and receiving respect is what children need as they grow up, as well as routine and consistent rules. We will encourage your child to experience life and take part in different activities; like sports, music and other interests. Education is important and we will do everything to encourage them to pursue college or university. We will do everything we can to encourage them to follow their own dreams.

It is difficult to sum up our lives in one short letter; hopefully, you now have a good feel for who we are as a family and parents.
