"We believe we were meant to open our home to another child and plan to shower our new child with the same love and affection that we have showed Allison. Ideally, we hope to have an open adoption. We want our child to grow up knowing that he or she was placed by someone who cared for them very much. Someone who just wanted to give them the best life possible."

Carolyn and Chris

Hi:

Thank you for considering us for adoption of your child. We appreciate you spending the time to read about us and learn whom we are.

We are a family of three, Karolyn, Chris and Allison and we are hoping to add to our family, maybe with your child. We offer a warm, loving, fun and compassionate home. We believe that children are the centre of the family and that every child is unique with a voice and opinion that counts. We will do everything to raise your child to their fullest potential.

Our Family
Chris and I were married in November 2003, in Newfoundland. We moved to Ontario at the beginning of 2006 to improve our lifestyle and have achieved this objective. Our family is loving, warm, affectionate, patient and supportive. It has been a true joy and blessing for us to be parents. Although infertility has prevented Chris and me from having a child biologically, we strongly believe we were meant to open our home to another child.

We are a family that spends a lot of time together. During the work/school week, both Chris and I participate in Allison's extracurricular activities, which certainly keep us busy. We enjoy good daily and bedtime routines--morning wakeups, chatting about the school day at supper, bedtime snacks, teeth brushing, prayers and cuddles. Family suppertime is important to us each day. It is the time when we get caught up on each other’s day. Our weekends are times which we always look forward to and enjoy.

Fridays are often a movie/popcorn night. We enjoy "getting out" and doing things as a family but also find our at home-days--in our PJs--great fun. Some of our family activities include visits to the Toronto Zoo, Ontario Science Centre and going to theatre, movies and concerts. Karolyn and Allison love to spend the day poking through shops.

We love the outdoors and enjoy camping trips. We want Allison to have the same family camping experience that we both loved as kids. We also enjoy going for walks with our dog, skating, biking and swimming in our pool.  We make the effort to get out picking berries as a family at the local farms. We have holidayed in Ontario, Newfoundland, PEI, Nova Scotia and Disney World. Our holidays usually include visits to the beach, amusement parks and local attractions. We can usually find leisurely nature hikes while we are away. Of course finding the local ice cream shop is always high on our list of things to do.

As a family, we love holidays and celebrations. Birthday parties are looked forward to. Karolyn and Allison enthusiastically plan for each party. We take all the events--Halloween, Christmas, Easter--very seriously (all in good fun of course). Karolyn and Allison spend considerable time decorating the house for each season. Planning and decorating the house for Christmas is one of their biggest and most fun tasks of the whole year and can take most of the month leading up to Christmas. Last year they even went out and bought a second Christmas tree to add to the festive spirit around the house.

Chris on Karolyn
Karolyn is a 39-year-old general surgeon in rural Ontario with a flexible work schedule. Our family moved to this area to improve our lifestyle. Karolyn works a reduced workweek and has plenty of time at home with the family. Her most important goal in life is to be a great mother and wife and she would cherish the opportunity to parent another child. Karolyn’s hobbies include crafts (knitting, cross-stitch and sewing), singing, playing piano, reading, horseback riding, baking and cooking. An ideal day for her is a "Chillax" day as Allison calls it--a day at home with family playing games, doing crafts, baking, hanging out or watching TV or movies.

Karolyn on Chris
Chris is 47 years old. He was a bachelor until we were lucky enough to find each other. Allison and I had been on our own for three years when we met. He worked very hard at not only being a partner to me but in getting to know and becoming a father to Allison. I know he will do the same with your child. When we moved to Ontario, we were concerned that Allison have a stable home life in which to adjust. Chris became our stay-at-home parent and he does a wonderful job with Allison and running our home. Introducing a new child into our family will also require a stable home with a stay at home parent, a role, which Chris will handle capably. His interests include reading, painting, cooking and refinishing furniture. Chris has worked in politics in Ottawa, as a chef, and up until our move, he was a fundraiser for our hospital. As a volunteer, Chris is involved with the school council and the local MS Society.

About Allison
Allison is a wonderful and loving 10-year-old girl. She is an “A” student in grade five at her school. Her extracurricular activities include choir, horseback riding and swimming. She enjoys playing board games, listening to music, drawing, writing stories in her journal, dancing and visiting with friends. Allison loves to watch Canadian and American Idol. High School Musical is very big in our house right now. Allison is excited about having a baby sister or brother.

Our Home
We live in a four-bedroom two-storey brick/siding home that is four years old. We live on a very quiet street with the only traffic being our neighbours. We are walking distance to parks, school, churches, hospital and our downtown. The population of our town is approximately 10,000 people. We have an excellent school, close by, that offers a wide range of extracurricular sports, music and academic activities. We chose to move here because it offered what our family needed--driving distance to Toronto and all that it has to offer, but with the pace and security of a small town.

About Parenting and Adoption
We have tried to show you that our family is loving, warm, affectionate, patient and supportive. We believe that children are the centre of the family. Each child is unique with a voice and opinion that counts. We have a strong family unit and can provide a loving and supportive home in which a child can grow. We believe we were meant to open our home to another child and plan to shower our new child with the same love and affection that we have showed Allison. Ideally, we hope to have an open adoption. We want our child to grow up knowing that he or she was placed by someone who cared for them very much. Someone who just wanted to give them the best life possible.

Considering adoption of your child is a very courageous decision. Please know that we have great respect for you and your strength as you go through the next few months and the process of deciding who will be blessed with your child. We will do everything to raise your child to their fullest potential.

We do hope that as you read our family profile, we will be the kind of people you want to adopt your child.
