Dear Birth Family,

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. Our names are Jennifer and Jeff and we would like to tell you a little bit more about ourselves, in the hope that you will consider us as parents for you child(ren). This must be a very difficult time for you and we can only imagine what you must be feeling right now. The decision to consider adoption for your child is a very courageous one.

We have nothing but respect for your decision, whatever it may be.

A Bit about Us
We met eleven years ago and dated for several years while Jen finished college and Jeff took his police training. We immediately liked each other’s sense of humor and honesty. We have been married for almost five years.

Jeff is 39 and Jen is 33. We are both healthy, energetic people, but due to fertility issues are pursuing adoption as a way to become parents. Jen’s family has several wonderful adoption stories and as a child she always considered it an important part of her family.

As a couple we enjoy traveling, both across Canada and around the world. We love spending time with our pets, going to movies, cooking and gardening.

Our Attitudes towards Parenting
We are financially secure and Jen plans to stay home with your child when he or she arrives. When your child is old enough, we plan to enroll them, at least part time, in a preschool so that they can play and visit with other children.

We both value education and would provide any child placed with us with every opportunity to learn. A child learns from the world around them and we believe that informal learning, through nature and playing with other children is just as important as school work. We would never push them beyond their capabilities but would encourage them to pursue their interests and dreams.

Our plan for parenting your child is to always be positive and respectful. We will provide a home that is nurturing and welcoming, where your child will always know they are loved and supported. Nature walks, boating and picnicking will be a part of your child’s life. Setting positive examples and being kind, understanding and fair are how we plan to parent your child. We would never use physical discipline.

We both grew up in very affectionate, non-judgmental homes.We would provide the same sort of unconditional love to your child. Our home is full of laughter and we would share that with your child.

We are big supporters of outside interests. Whatever your child may be interested in, be it sports, music, scouts or anything else, we will fully support them in pursuing their dreams.

Jen
I am a preschool teacher. Children are so unique, you never know from one minute to the next what they will say or do. I constantly come home with stories about the clever, thoughtful or hilarious things my students do.

I enjoy crafts like scrap booking and card making. I love to bake and read and go to movies.  I also enjoy walking and spending time with family and friends. I am a happy person with strong ties to family and home.

Your child would have a parent who loved to spend time with them and would encourage their creativity.  Bedtime stories would be a must (I love Robert Munsch). Holidays would be full of family and friends, decorating and baking, traveling and fun. I believe life is full of joy and would share this with your child.

Jeff Talks about Jen
Jennifer and I have been together for 11 years. I would describe Jennifer as my best friend.  She makes me happy with her sense of humor and loving personality. We enjoy spending time together. Jen is very involved with both sides of our family and adores her niece and nephews. Because of all of this and so much more, there is no one else I would rather be with.

Jeff
I have chosen a career as police officer. I am a member of a protective operations team. As a member of this team, we respond to situations above the capabilities and training of regular police officers. My work is extremely satisfying because of the huge emphasis on team work and fitness. My job is very stable and we can remain in the same home for the rest of my career.

I am a very active person and enjoy fishing, woodworking, martial arts, cooking, gardening and just spending time at home. Being with family and friends is an important part of my life.

I am looking forward to becoming a father. It has always been a dream of mine to have a child to care for and to welcome into my life. I look forward to going camping, attending extracurricular events and just being a dad.

Jen Talks about Jeff
Jeff is the most trustworthy person I know. His is very patient, kind and funny. His outgoing personality has earned him a large circle of friends. Children enjoy his fun nature and our nephew has decided to become a police officer because of his admiration for his Uncle Jeff.  Jeff makes me happy, makes me laugh and makes our home truly where my heart is.

Our Families
Jen is very close to both her immediate and extended family – she grew up on a farm and her parents continue to farm today. Growing up on a farm gave her a love for nature and a great sense of family background.  Her parents and siblings are great people, kind, affectionate and supportive.

Jeff is very close to both his parents and younger brother. His parents are both very kind, loving people.  They taught him compassion, responsibility and humor.

We have a niece and two nephews who are eager to have a new little cousin. Your child would be welcomed into our family with open arms.

Our Home
We live in a new two-story, three-bedroom house with a yard full of flowers. We are eagerly awaiting the day we can add a sandbox to our backyard. We have a finished basement with a great recreation room and a crackling fireplace. One of our bedrooms has been set aside as a nursery. It is sunlit and pretty, with a lovely view of the neighborhood. At Christmas time our home is aglow with lights and decorations.
Our home is on a peaceful street with great neighbors in a quiet neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. We live close to schools and recreational facilities as well as shopping areas. There are lots of parks in our neighborhood and plenty of young families. Your child would have lots of playmates as they grew up.

Our Pets
We have three dogs: Jack, Sam and Frank. Jack and Sam we have had since they were puppies and Frank we rescued from the SPCA. They are all very friendly and are beloved by the neighborhood kids. We also have a very plump cat named Bill who actually likes our dogs. We spend lots of time outdoors with our dogs, taking them for walks, boat rides and drives in the country. They have spent plenty of time around children and are all very gentle and affectionate. Our cat is remarkably lazy but sweet and will cuddle with anyone who gives her the opportunity.

Our Thoughts on Adoption
We would be thrilled to meet with you and talk about your wishes for an adoption. We are eager to have any degree of openness in adoption that you are comfortable with and would certainly like to share emails with you after your child is born and meet annually. We would be very pleased if you wanted to send letters to your child and we would share pictures with you. We would be happy to share in the naming of your child with you. Our hope is to have a good relationship with you, one that you feel comfortable with.

We are aware of the new adoption disclosure act and would support your child in their search should you choose not to have an open adoption.

Your child will always be aware of their adoption. We plan to create a life book for them, as a way of preserving memories and would be open to anything you would like to put in it, be it letters, pictures or anything else.
