Andy, George, Chloe and Snowi

Hello!

What a strange way to start a letter! But, since we don’t know your name, we’ll have to begin this way.

We are so grateful that you are taking the time to read this letter to learn more about us and about the wonderful home and family we can offer your baby. Thank you!

We believe that events in life happen for a reason and that somewhere, somehow, there is a master plan for everything. We believe that the reason we were not able to conceive a second child is that we were meant to welcome another baby into our family through adoption!

Let’s start by introducing ourselves. We are George and Andy. We have been married for 11 years and have been together for 19 years. We are the proud parents of a seven-year-old daughter, Chloe. We have always wanted to have more than one child, and since having Chloe we have been unable to become pregnant a second time, despite numerous fertility treatments. Our hope and dream is that we will be able to adopt a child that we will all cherish and adore--then our family will be complete.

We each have one sibling--George has a younger brother and I have an older sister. There is nothing like the close bond and special memories shared by siblings! This is something that we would love for Chloe to experience. We also know that Chloe would be a wonderful and caring big sister to a younger sibling. Chloe, our little ‘mommy’, is constantly begging us for a little brother or sister, and can’t wait to adopt a baby brother or sister.

We recently moved to Canada from South Africa. We have left some of our family behind, but feel very fortunate to have a strong family unit here in Toronto with my aunt, uncle and many cousins with whom we are very close. Our friends have also become part of our family. We spend many happy times with our friends and family, sharing special events, holidays, and birthdays, creating many wonderful memories. Our family and friends play an important part in our lives, and are excited at the prospect of us adopting a child.

George graduated from law school and worked as a lawyer for seven years. He completed his MBA and is now involved in the management of start-up mining companies, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He is a totally devoted father and a great playmate to Chloe. Together they spend countless hours playing games, bike riding, talking, reading, and just joking around!

I have a university honours degree in Business Commerce. I work as a project manager with a major Canadian bank. My job provides me with the flexibility to work from home two to three days a week, and on these days I drive Chloe’s car pools to school and to after-school activities which I love doing. I am very sensitive to Chloe’s needs and am devoted to Chloe’s happiness.

Chloe is in Grade two. She is a bubbly, loving child with a passion for life. She excels in math and science, and loves the arts. We feel very strongly about providing children with a good education and opportunities for a rich and diverse life, to allow them to find their strengths and passions. Chloe attends a private school and has had the opportunity to experience many different sports and arts. Chloe has done gymnastics, soccer, ice skating, skiing, art classes, swimming and dance. She has found her passion in dance and is very dedicated to her dance classes. Chloe will be a wonderful role model and supportive and kind big sister!

We own a large house in a peaceful neighbourhood just outside Toronto. Our house is a child’s paradise. Chloe’s friends always comment on “how fun her house is”! The community centre and parks are a five-minute walk from our home. The community centre offers amazing facilities and programs for infants through to teens, including summer camps.

Living in Canada, we decided to take up a winter sport that we could enjoy as a family. Because George and I are not ice skaters, skiing it was! Our first skiing lesson was hilarious! Within minutes, at the tender age of three, Chloe was skiing down the hill, just loving it. We, on the other hand, were trying to master “the snow plough” in a desperate attempt to learn to stop. Fortunately, we have improved somewhat since those early days and enjoy spending time up north in the winter mastering our skiing skills. George is now an avid skier with Chloe, while I on the other hand am still mastering the bunny-slopes!

Family time is a top priority for us. Weekends are our time to be together as a family. We love to just hang out together. We have our special weekend ritual which starts with cuddle time in bed, followed by our special breakfast of ‘Coco-eggs’, named after Chloe. As a family, we take advantage of all that Toronto has to offer. In the summer we take Chloe swimming, go apple picking or head over to the amusement park at Toronto Island which is so much fun. In the winter we love to go skiing and when we can’t get up north, we have a great hill near the house where we go tobogganing. We love to travel and experience different cultures and foods.

We believe that knowing where children come from helps them to understand who they are. We want you to know that if we are fortunate enough to adopt your baby, we will ensure that your baby knows who his or her birth parents are, if this is your wish. We would work with you to determine whatever communication arrangement you feel comfortable with. Whatever our adoption arrangement may be, your baby will know that you have placed him or her for adoption out of love and to ensure that he or she has the best possible future, in a wonderful home with two adoring parents and a loving sister.

This is a very exciting experience for us. For six years, we have tried to add a child to our family. It is incredibly thrilling to think that our prayers may soon be answered and that this letter may now be in the hands of someone who is able to offer their baby a place in our wonderful home, in our hearts and family, and who can make our dream come true!

No matter what you decide, we wish you well and thank you again for taking the time to read this letter.

With our deepest respect and appreciation,
George, Andy and Chloe
