Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile. We are Thomas and Alex, an energetic and fun-loving married couple excited to create our family through adoption. Raising a family together has always been our dream and we’re excited to tackle the joys and challenges of parenting together. We value openness and acceptance, and will always love your child for who they are as an individual. We hope that this profile will give you an idea of who we are as a couple and the love we would hope to provide to your child.

About Us
We had our first date 5 years ago at a local coffee shop and have been inseparable ever since. We had such a great time that we were married at the hotel above that same coffee shop a few years later! We quickly discovered how important having a family was to both of us and knew early-on that we wanted to create a family together through adoption. We both come from close-knit families where holidays and birthdays are spent together, catching up and eating more than we probably should! Both of our families are incredibly supportive and excited about adoption and we know your child will be surrounded by a dedicated and warm-hearted extended family. As a couple, we are committed to building a nurturing and loving home where your child will feel accepted and secure.
Our Relationship
We’re an easy-going couple that loves to laugh and isn’t afraid to get our feet wet! As a couple we enjoy spending plenty of time outdoors. We love hiking, going for walks at the Guelph Arboretum, spending time in our garden, or just relaxing on the deck in our backyard. We also play plenty of board games, and often like to have our siblings or friends over for game night. We’re a playful couple with plenty of energy to share, and look forward to riding bikes, making crafts, and having story-time as a family together.
After an active day out-and-about, we appreciate a quiet night in, making popcorn and watching a show with our two wonderful cats. A typical weekend for us begins with making coffee and breakfast at home, walking to the Farmers market downtown, and having dinner with our family and friends.
Thomas
Thomas grew up in Kitchener with three older siblings and is used to a busy household! His background is Scottish and Swiss and he has a big extended family on both sides. Sunday dinners have always been a tradition in Thomas’ family and are something that continues to this day with an open invitation to the whole family every Sunday. His favourite family tradition growing up was going camping every summer on Lake Huron, something we hope to do with our new family too.
Thomas went to medical school at McMaster University and he is currently working as a Family Doctor in Guelph. His favourite part of his job is that he gets to care for patients of all ages, from newborns to grandparents. In his free time, Thomas likes to bake, read mystery novels, paint, and do yoga. He also enjoys knitting and plans to be in charge of making socks and mittens for the whole family! Thomas is a kind, affectionate and loving husband with a big heart who cherishes his time with his family. Thomas is excited for our family to grow and he will soon make a great dad!
Alex
Alex grew up in Cambridge as the youngest of two and has one older brother. His family is originally from England and Newfoundland, two places we’ve always wanted to go! He has always had a close relationship with his parents and brother and we are lucky to see them most weekends. Growing up, his favourite family tradition was going apple picking at a nearby farm, something that we still do every Fall. Alex loves everything to do with plants and gardening. He studied plant biology at the University of Toronto and works in the greenhouse at the Royal Botanical Gardens. His passion for plants extends beyond his work; in fact, one of his favourite hobbies is gardening around the home. He can often be found caring for our many tropical houseplants, or tending to our veggie garden!
He also likes cooking, going for canoe rides, and has a knack for solving jigsaw puzzles. Alex is an exceptionally kind, patient, and gentle person who will make a wonderful, loving father. Raising a family has always been Alex’s dream. His easy-going, warm, and playful nature will make our home a fun and supportive environment for your child to thrive. When we are lucky enough to become parents, Alex plans to be a stay-at-home dad to take care of our family.
Home
We live in Guelph on a tree-lined street in a family-friendly neighbourhood. Our house is within walking distance of several parks, the public library, and a local elementary school. Our backyard is an ideal play area for kids (and adults!) and where we spend a lot of our time in the warmer months. One of our favourite things to do in the summer is cooking dinner on the BBQ and eating outside with fresh vegetables from our garden. As a smaller city, Guelph has a strong community-feel and plenty of parks and green space. Having both of our extended families nearby is one of the most important things to us when it comes to raising our family, making Guelph an ideal place to live! We have two cats, a tortoiseshell named Millie and an orange tabby named Archie.
Values and Beliefs
We are a family-oriented couple and were both raised in loving and happy families. As parents, we would like to offer that same safe and nurturing environment for your child. We will love your child unconditionally in a caring environment with plenty of time for exploration, play and laughter. We’ll work hard to provide your child with as many opportunities as we can and give them the ability to explore their own hobbies and interests, whether that means sports, music and everything in between! We both value time spent with family and are lucky to have flexible careers that will allow us to spend as much time as possible with your child. Family traditions are an important part of our lives, and we’re excited to create new ones of our own. One of our favourite holiday traditions is getting all bundled up and cutting down our Christmas tree as a family every year.
Thomas’ family is Mennonite and is part of a very supportive church community with many young families and children (and yes, we have a car and electricity!). We attend church every once in a while, especially on holidays like Christmas and Easter. As a same-sex couple, we feel lucky to be part of such a warm and accepting community and truly believe that you can never have too many people who love your child. We will always be open and supportive towards your child’s own exploration of individuality and spirituality.
Our Relationship with You
We value openness and plan to discuss adoption with your child from day one. We believe that your child has the right to know their own unique story and plan to use tools such as life books to help them understand their history. Our goal is to be open and honest through the whole process with you and your child. We are hopeful for the opportunity to develop a level of openness that you are comfortable with and that meets the needs of your child, including photos, updates, and visits. We would be grateful to have the opportunity to discuss this with you further to develop an openness plan together.
