Hi! My name is Sophia. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. I can only imagine what you’re feeling as you try to make this important decision. I understand that most expectant mothers probably want to place their baby with a couple as opposed to a single woman. Although I’m single, I can assure you that the amount of love I have in my heart will more than make up for not having a partner. I may not be what some people think of as a traditional family but that doesn’t mean my family will be just me. Your child will have a loving extended family living close by. My whole family can’t wait to be a part of your child’s life. I hope once you learn more about me and my life, you will feel my home would be a great place for your child to grow up.

A Little Bit About Me

I’m 41 years old. I was born in Ottawa where I still live. I’m caring, funny, and a great listener. I love dancing, music and singing. I often sing in the car, while cooking dinner – whenever! I love celebrating birthdays, holidays, and milestones. I can’t wait to celebrate events with your little one and begin creating new traditions together.

I love reading, photography, cooking and going to see musicals. My very favourite thing to do is travel. As soon as I come home from a trip I’m dreaming about my next one! I’m fortunate enough to be able to travel at least once a year. Over the years I’ve gone to Jamaica to visit family, Cuba, the Bahamas, Australia, a few countries in Europe and most recently, St. Maarten with my parents. I can’t wait to travel with your child and show her the world.

I live in a cute townhouse/condo in a nice, quiet neighbourhood close to parks, a community pool, walking trails, a library and good schools. Ottawa has tons of family friendly events, festivals and celebrations that make it a great place for a child to grow up.

Family and Friends

My parents moved to Canada from Jamaica in the 1970s. They’ve been happily married for more than 40 years. My brother, Oran is three years older than me. He was also born in Jamaica. Now that my parents are retired, they have a lot of free time and can’t wait to become grandparents! Family is very important to me. I am lucky enough to live close to my family. We see each other a lot for dinners and to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. My whole family is excited at the idea of adding another member to our family through adoption. My cousins who also live close by, have small children, so your child will have cousins close in age to play with. When we all get together the house is filled with laughter, stories and delicious food!

My best friend’s name is Kim. We’ve been like sisters since we met in grade 7! Even though we’ve spent most of our friendship living away from each other, we talk all the time and are as close as can be. My friends are a great group of women who always support each other and they’re also really fun! Most of them have children and have offered to be a part of your child’s life.

I’ve been an elementary teacher since 2000. I LOVE being a teacher! I feel lucky to be a part of so many children’s lives. The best part of my day is reading books to my students. I’m excited to read wonderful picture books to your child. There are some sweet books about adoption to help your child when she has questions. It’s also great that as a teacher I’ll be able to spend holidays and summers with your child, giving us lots of quality time to make memories together.

I’d Like You to Know

I will openly talk to your child about her adoption from an early age, gradually giving her information and answering questions as her curiosity grows. I’ll tell her all about you and her birth family. I’ll make sure your child knows you made this decision selflessly because of your love for her.

I’d like to have an open adoption where you can connect with your child, if that’s what you wish. I’m very happy to send you pictures and updates of your child. We can figure out meetings that work for our comfort levels and are best for your child.

I promise to snuggle your child everyday and love her unconditionally with all my heart and soul. Please know I will give her a safe and happy home with every opportunity to explore and discover the person she is meant to become.

Thank You!

Thanks again for reading my profile. I hope I’ve answered any questions you may have about me. I wish you all the best with your important decision. Thank you for considering me to be a mother to your child. I can assure you, if you choose me as an adoptive mother, your child will be the centre of my universe and will be given all the love, care and attention a child could ever ask for.

Sincerely, Sophia
