We are J.R. and Meggie and we are hoping to adopt our first child. We hope that our letter gives you a good idea of who we are as a couple and as individuals. Having both grown up in loving families, we are eager to be able to pass on love to a child needing a home. We have always wanted to be young parents, and we feel that adoption will be an awesome way to start our family.
We both attended the same high school, where we became good friends. This friendship continued to grow and we began dating in grade 12. We both spent time overseas on our own after high school, doing missions work and attending Bible School before settling in back home. We have been together for 9 years, and married for 6 years. Early in our marriage we discovered the difficulties of starting a family on our own and that has led our hearts to continue our adventure together through adoption.
Meggie works as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at a local Long Term Care Facility and has been working there for 6 years. Meggie grew up in a big family with 6 siblings and loving, devoted parents. Meggie’s parents are farmers and have always lived on acreage. Meggie’s family has grown to include many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, which our adopted child would have a lot of fun with. Some of the activities that Meggie enjoys are hiking, paddleboarding, boating, traveling and being outdoors. She has a knack for refinishing furniture and enjoys completing various projects – especially with chalk paint.
J.R. works as a Commercial Account Manager at a local Bank where he has been for 4 years. J.R. stands for Jon-Robert: he is the oldest grandchild on both sides of his family, so he inherited both of his grandfathers’ first names. J.R. grew up in a family with 2 siblings and loving, devoted parents. J.R.’s parents moved onto acreage when he was 12 and little did he know that he had moved just around the corner from Meggie! J.R. enjoys playing various sports such as basketball, football, volleyball, soccer and pickleball, as well as being outdoors, hiking, paddleboarding and boating. Although J.R. has an office job, he enjoys working with his hands and doing various woodworking projects including building some of the furniture for our home such as coffee tables, side tables, beds, and even our bathroom vanity.
We both regularly attend a local Evangelical (Christian) Church where we have become connected in a community group. Through this we have made many great friends. We enjoy spending time with these friends and we meet together regularly for both Bible Study and just to hang out and have fun.
We live on a small acreage in a house that we built with the help of many of our family members who are skilled in various trades. The acreage backs on to municipal forest with many hiking and biking trails. We are located close to many lakes, parks and schools and we enjoy residing in a close-knit community. We have a Bernese Mountain Dog who is very friendly and makes a great family dog. We are very excited to watch our kids grow up in this house with lots of room to explore outside.
We both enjoy going on walks together where we can talk about our day. We also like to go on hikes together and we have explored many parts of BC and Alberta as well as some parts of Europe. We both enjoy the summer weather and we take every advantage to get outside. Meggie always looks forward to making hanging baskets and planting flowers in spring, while J.R. works on maintaining and improving the landscaping.
We are very family oriented, and have great relationships with both of our families. Nearly all of our siblings are married and we get together often for family meals or just to hang out. We are excited that our children will grow up surrounded by such a supportive family network. One of Meggie’s siblings and his wife adopted a child a few years ago, which sparked the thought for us as an option for starting our family. It has been amazing to observe how well our adopted nephew fits into the family and is loved and accepted. Both of our families were ecstatic when we told them that we were pursuing adoption. We look forward to welcoming another child into our extended family through adoption.
We believe our child will benefit from an open adoption and we would like for you to be involved in our child’s life in a way that is most beneficial for the child, which would ideally include direct contact with them. We would be grateful to have the opportunity to meet with you so you can get to know us better and develop an openness plan together.
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and we wish you all the best in your adoption journey.
