Thanks for taking the time to read our profile. We hope you will join us on our adoption journey.
We met in Toronto in 2005. Jimmy had just moved there for graduate studies, and Dave was attending a teacher’s training program. Dave knew some of Jimmy’s roommates and was invited to their housewarming party. Jimmy and Dave bonded over similar values and ideals as well as mutual interests in travelling and the outdoors. We moved in together the following year and spent five years together in Toronto starting our careers.
In 2010, we decided to move to Vancouver to be closer to Jimmy’s family, enjoy the year-round outdoor activities, and expand our family. After 9 years together, Jimmy and Dave finally married in 2014 in a small ceremony with close family, followed by a big party in the evening. Ever since our first meeting, we dreamed about how we wanted to be parents, and we hope you will help make this dream come true.
We live in Mount Pleasant-Riley Park, a short distance outside of downtown. It’s a safe and quiet area with great schools, parks, restaurants, and cafes within close walking distance. We are close enough to nature to hike and camp regularly in the summer and ski and snowshoe in the winter. We live in a diverse and vibrant neighborhood where families of all orientations and backgrounds feel welcome.
Dave is a high school Math, Social Studies, and Special Education teacher. Before he became a teacher, Dave studied in various locations in Ecuador and worked in Havana, Cuba teaching children about Urban Agriculture.
Dave loves the outdoors. It’s hard to get him to pass up a chance to hike up a mountain. His adventures with Jimmy have taken him from Vancouver’s local mountains to the dramatic mountains of Venezuela, Brazil, Indonesia, the Rockies, the Andes and Japan.
Dave also enjoys playing recreational volleyball, tennis and softball. He loves listening to folk music and attending summer festivals. Dave’s really passionate about music and enjoys reading up on his favorite artists.
Jimmy works in a federal government department. In the past, Jimmy was a teacher in Hokkaido, Japan and took International Relations courses in Santiago, Chile.
Jimmy is passionate about literature, art, politics and science and is an avid listener of CBC radio. He loves listening to CBC’s Sunday Morning and This Is That, and enjoys listening to various podcasts.
Jimmy spends his free time cooking, playing tennis and doing water polo. He often watches old Youtube clips of his favourite tennis players, such as Boris Becker and Roger Federer. He coaches a high school tennis team and loves learning new languages. His current favourite is Brazilian Portuguese. Jimmy recently took up card games and often plays Bridge and Euchre with Dave and the family.
We both have stable, rewarding, and enjoyable jobs. We both lived and worked overseas. We try to take a major trip every year and look forward to introducing our children to different cultures and places. Other adventures have taken us to Turkey, Indonesia, the Caribbean, California and Japan.
We both come from loving families. Dave grew up in Toronto in a family of six. Jimmy grew up in a family of four with a large extended family in Vancouver. Our children can look forward to a loving community of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. We value family togetherness and believe in providing the same love and sense of belonging to our children that we had growing up.
We know this is a hard decision for you. We believe that the birth mom will always play a role in the child’s history. We plan to always raise our children knowing that they are adopted. We know our child will ask questions about their birth parents and will respect any degree of openness the birth mom requests.
We choose adoption as our first choice to expand our family. We know will make great parents and will offer a safe, stable, and exciting life for our children. We look forward to hearing from you.
