Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. We are Gina and Ben. Though we have not met, we are in awe of your compassion and courage. The gift of adoption is the ultimate act of profound love, and selflessness. We cannot begin to understand how difficult it must have been for you to make the decision to enter into an adoption plan. We are honored and touched that you are considering us as potential adopting parents.
From the very early days of our relationship, we knew we wanted children. We both come from large extended families and enjoyed growing up with siblings and cousins. Once we were ready to become parents, we have always been open to adoption. Two of Ben’s first cousins are adopted and so we have seen adoption to be a wonderful experience. We know what is truly important to us and that is to be parents to our children, however they may come to us. We are thrilled for the day that we welcome a new baby into our life and excited to create a special unique bond and love with her/him through parenting. We and our families would love nothing more than to open our hearts and our homes to your baby, if you decide we are the family you want. We are so excited to become Daddy and Mommy to a little one!
We have been married now for 14 years. We met at the University of Toronto 17 years ago. At the time, I (Gina) was in my second year of my BSc of engineering program and Ben was in his first year of doctorate program in computer science. We both share a Persian background and quickly became best friends. Our interest and love for each other began to grow. We dated for approximately 2 years before became engaged. We got married a year later when we graduated from the University of Toronto and have been living a life full of love since. We are each other’s best friend and have spent our time having adventures, traveling, spending time with each other’s families, and finding the perfect home in which to raise our family.
I (Ben) have a PhD in computer science and am a Professor at Brock University. I have built a career in academic research. I am passionate about teaching. It gives me great joy sharing my knowledge with others. Gina has worked as a professional engineer for over 7 years and she is in her last year of her PhD program in environmental engineering at the University of Waterloo. We both have flexible jobs that allow us to be there for our family. Although we both have worked very hard pursuing our careers, we have already made the commitment to put our family first upon becoming parents. Gina has decided to be a stay at home mom until our children all hit school age.
I love Gina more and more as the years go by. Gina has always ensured that whatever she sets her mind to is resounding success. I am proud of what she has achieved and yet to achieve. Challenges and obstacles that would defeat most people, rarely, daunt her. She keeps moving forward with grace and confidence. Gina is the most positive and happy person I know. She never ceases to inspire me. My little niece and nephew are always looking forward to hang out with her and always greet her with shrieks of joy, excitement, and leg hugs. She bakes the best sugar cookies. She is adventurous, loves to travel and try new things. She plans out our trips, which are always fun and exciting. When we travel, especially if Maggie is with us, we have the time of our lives. She is strong, hard working, and has been said to have the patience of a saint. She is extremely passionate when it comes to family and friends. She can light up any room with her vibrant smile and charming personality. She is the nucleus of the family and has made our home a hub of family and friend gatherings (especially during the holiday season!). I cannot imagine my life without her in it. Simply, Gina is one of those people that everyone wants to be around. I cannot wait to see her shine as a loving mother.
Ben has been my best friend and my rock for the past 17 years. He is a wonderful husband and I know he will be an incredible and loving dad. He is a wise old soul and has a gentle and caring nature. He is smart, life oriented, considerate, and a very affectionate man. When life gets tough, he is always there to comfort me and remind me to look for the silver lining in difficult situation. He has a terrific sense of humour and loves teasing with his “one liners” that leave people with laughter. He is a natural born teacher and leader with strong work ethics and personal integrity, which I profoundly admire and respect. His trusting personality fits his career as a professor and his students love him. Ben has a warm personality that makes people feel comfortable in his presence and that they’ve known him forever. Everyone in his department relies on him as someone they can depend on, someone who would listen to them, and someone they feel they could seek guidance from. On top of all these, he has a culinary flair and a knack for grilling the perfect steak. He is the best doggy dad and a kid magnet. Our niece and nephew adore him. He can be a big kid himself at times and but knows when to switch over and be the adult. I’m overjoyed at the thought of him holding our baby and cannot wait our little family grow together.
Miss Maggie has been part of our life for 9 years now. She is our fur baby and lives a very spoiled life. She definitely is a daddy’s girl. She is very smart and knows how to sit, lay down, shake, and give a kiss. She likes to be snuggled and is the perfect TV watching partner. She can be shy at times but loves children. She has decided it is her duty to alert us of anyone near the house. She loves to be chased around and play her own version of fetch. She is the best travel companion! We’ve road tripped together many times and really enjoyed every minute of it.
I love being an environmental engineer and help industries make smart decisions to cleanup and reduce pollutions. Because I have worked hard early in my career, I have the privilege of stepping back and I put all of my attention and energy to my family once the little one arrives. I cannot wait to be a mom! The idea of dressing a little person every single day fills me with excitement. I cannot wait to experience sweet new baby smell, the baby’s bath times, the smell of baby shampoo and baby talc, all the baby’s “firsts”; first smiles and giggles, first words, first roll over, first walk, first tooth, first birthday, first Holidays. I love it when our niece and nephew are over and you can hear children laughing, watching kid stuff on Netfix, climbing up on my lap, and the bedtime storytelling times. I am so very excited to experience all these great things with our baby.
We are fortunate because we both love to travel and are able to do so. There is always a conference somewhere in the world that one of us has to attend and the other one just tags along. We’ve visited numerous countries and states (France, Spain, Greece, England, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, Peru, Brazil, Morocco, Austria, Netherlands, Costa Rica, United States, Mexico, etc.). We love to travel to warm-sunny destinations in winter and Europe in the summer and experience the local lifestyle, cuisines and culture. We love to plan road trips and we have been to many cities in Canada and the U.S.A. We enjoy active style of life and like the outdoors, cycling, walking, music, and good food. During summer, we have daily trips to the beach (5 minutes walking distance from our house). We also go camping with friends and enjoy staying at a cottage with our family. We are excited for a lifetime of new experiences and adventures with our children.
Our comfortable home is in an amazing family-oriented community in Stoney Creek. We live in a beautiful two-story, 4-bedroom home with a large fenced-in yard. We have designed a baby friendly house with a huge room playroom. We have plenty of grass for playing outside and sidewalks for wagon rides. There are many young families that live on our street and there is always a family friendly activity going on. We are close to walking trails, conservation areas, marinas, and beaches. Our neighbors are friendly and caring and we feel our community is a great place to raise a family. We enjoy the neighborhood cookouts and block parties. Our house is located near several local parks with playgrounds, YMCA, YWCA, and top-ranked schools and programs.
We both have grown up in loving families and tight knit communities that supported each other’s differences and celebrated success. We are thrilled that both of our families now live locally and we look forward to family get-togethers and holidays. We have a niece and a nephew whom we love dearly. We are honored to be their godparents and have been entrusted as the legal guardians of them. We get together with our families every weekend.
I come from a family of physicians. My mom (Betty) is a pediatrician and has been practicing for over 30 years. She has great knowledge and experience about children and all our friends always seek advice from her for their children. We are very fortunate to have her close to us. My dad (Bijan) is a general surgeon in one of the largest surgical centres. My younger sister, Feri, lives in Toronto with her family. She is a successful IT manager and a consultant working for one of the prominent pharmaceutical companies in Canada. Gina and I are close to my family and we talk to my family often over the phone or by email. We visit my family regularly and enjoy spending time with them. My family is excited about our adoption decision.
I come from a very close family. My mom (Parri) is a very successful business woman and a retired accountant. She is the CEO of a custom contact lens manufacturer. She and my uncle (who is an ophthalmologist) have made it possible for thousands of underprivileged patients with needed eye prosthetics to get their confidence and life back. My dad (Reza) is a mechanical engineer who is a director at one of the engineering consulting firms. My younger brother (Sia) is a general surgeon in New Jersey. My family is beyond excited about our adoption decision. My brother calls Ben and I almost everyday to ask me if there is any (good) news on the baby part since we started our journey of adoption. He is engaged to be married in Summer 2017. We visit each other every month or two.
