Hi! We are Cheryl and Andrew and we live in Toronto. We are excited to give our unconditional love to a child and grow our family through the miracle of adoption. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. Even though we do not know you yet, we have a great amount of respect and admiration for you. We cannot truly understand everything you are going through but please know we offer our sincere support and compassion. We can only try to understand the difficulty in the decisions that lie ahead for you but we know for sure that the plan you are making is being made out of love, courage and selflessness and that you are trying to make the best decision for your child. We hope, by looking at our photos and reading about our lives, you will find comfort in knowing how much we want to offer your child a loving and caring home. If you think we might be a good match, we’d love to take this to the next step in a way that is comfortable and supportive to you.
Having a child has always been a dream of ours. We first pursued many costly fertility treatments, all that were medically available to us, but with no success. We decided to open our hearts to adoption when we knew we were unable to have a biological child but knew in our hearts that we still wanted to be parents. We are happy to grow our family in any way and know how wonderful it would be to welcome a child into our home and our hearts.
Funny Story…. Andrew and Cheryl both happened to be looking for a roommate. She started looking at rooms for rent in the area. The first number she dialed was Andrew. An arrangement was made to view his place. Cheryl thought she was crazy for even considering moving in with a man that she didn’t even know but thought she’d just go and take a look. It was a cold and blustery winter’s night and she arrived on Andrew’s doorstep wrapped in layer upon layer of winter garb with only slits in her scarf for her eyes to see through. (Being that she was from Thunder Bay she was fully prepared for such days.) Andrew felt badly for her trudging through the snow and offered her a cup of tea. Cheryl thought that if Andrew’s first instinct was to offer tea, he couldn’t possibly be so bad. So she decided to move in. A friendship was quickly formed and about 6 months later they soon found themselves sitting up late sipping wine, talking and talking and falling in love. A year later, on a trip to Spain, Andrew proposed.
Cheryl is so lucky to have the opportunity to share her passion for dance with all of the children at her dance studios. Watching her young students grow into strong leaders and talented performers is so rewarding. Her favourite style to teach is tap dancing. Speaking of favourites; Cheryl’s favourite food is….well, it’s pizza and anything drizzled in caramel is a close 2nd. Since having lived in The Bahamas she has discovered a love of snorkeling and beaching but still enjoys camping in the Ontario wilderness – being from Thunder Bay, Cheryl grew up camping in Northwestern Ontario. She’s also one who loves a good TV crime show.
Cheryl is my rock. She has helped me understand what it means to love and to love unconditionally. Our fertility journey has been a difficult and emotional one and I’m not sure I could have survived it without her infinite patience and enduring faith. With or without kids, we are a family. Cheryl is one of those people who don’t realize how wonderful they are (which makes her even more wonderful!). She is a successful business women who has turned her passion, teaching dance, into a rewarding career. Her dance studio is successful not just because it offers a quality dance education but because Cheryl and the Annex Dance Academy team provide so much more than dance – they teach kids to be good people. Cheryl is also very courageous. Even if she is nervous or afraid, Cheryl steps up when called upon and forges ahead. She has proven her mettle on so many occasions during our fertility journey, I know her resolve is pure steel. And she’s always up for a good adventure. We’ve been co-pilots on many an adventure in the past and I know there will be many more to come! I could go on about all the great things about Cheryl but there is only so much space in this profile. (besides, I hope you get to learn about Cheryl’s wonderful attributes first hand) but there is one last thing I really should highlight. Cheryl is truly dedicated to family. Our families, both older members and the younger ones, mean so much to her. The love she shares for our nieces and nephew warms my heart and leaves me knowing a wonderful mom she will be.
Andrew works as a Management Consultant. What the heck is a Management Consultant? Good question! It’s someone who helps organizations achieve their goals more effectively and efficiently. In his case, he works with government organizations and in the health sector. In fact, one very large project he’s been working on is to bring Universal Health Care to the people of The Bahamas. Andrew is also a film buff – in fact, he’s made a few short films that have screened at film festivals in North America and Europe. Dinner out with friends or running in Toronto’s High Park are some of his favorite things – that and hanging out with Cheryl watching Netflix.
Andrew is the most intelligent person I’ve ever met. I’ve rarely been able to stump him on the definition of a word. He’s literally a walking dictionary. HA HA! Having said that he is a person of many different colourful layers and these layers characterize a fun, loving, energetic soul who puts it all out there so he can experience all that life has to offer. He loves trying new things and has a yearning for learning that is unparalleled. Andrew is an old soul but still loves things like The Doors and Indie Rock tunes, fun nights out on the town with friends, exciting vacations filled with culture, and simple cozy nights at home snuggled up with me watching a movie. He’s the first person I go to to explain business and finances but also the first to share his compassion for people (or animals) less fortunate than most – He’s a strong advocate to have in anyone’s corner. He’s a voracious reader and excellent planner but the thing I love most of all, aside from his responsible characteristics and more serious side, I love – love – love his quirky habit of making up songs on a whim about whatever he is doing at any given time as he’s going about his day. Some people hum or whistle; Andrew confidently serenades. It’s so funny and cute at the same time!
Our vision is to be a family of unconditional love and support that understands and empathizes with each other. A family that makes fun and adventure not just something that happens every once in while. A family that encourages learning though conventional or unconventional ways and that provides a safe and sturdy foundation on which dreams can be pursued.
We have so much love to share with a child and we are excited to have the opportunity to expand our family through adoption. If we are given this privilege to adopt your baby, always know we will unconditionally love and cherish your child and they will forever know the sacrifices you have made out of love. Thank you once again for taking the time to read our story. We wish you all the best in this journey. We respect your decision to follow your heart and we know you will do what is best for your child.
