HELLO!

Our names are Duane, Amanda and Kaleah and we’re so excited and thankful that you’re reading our letter.  We hope that once you’re finished, you will have a good idea of who we are and our dreams for our future with our children.

Why Adoption?

We chose adoption for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, even before we were married, we knew that we wanted to adopt.  Second, after having a difficult time conceiving and a high-risk pregnancy, we have been advised not to conceive another child, but rather go through the adoption process.  Ultimately, we have come to realize that a family of four is what we want; a sister or brother for our little girl to love, bond, play with, bicker and everything in between.

Meet our family!

My name is Amanda and I am a stay-at-home mother to our four year old daughter, Kaleah.  I love everything about being a mom, from changing diapers to the late night feeds. Since I am an active Mama who loves being creative, our days are spent baking, doing crafts, running around outside and taking Kali to her activities.  I have a passion for photography and I love taking pictures of Kali daily!

My name is Duane and I am a Chartered Accountant.  My hobbies are mountain biking with our dog, Diesel, golfing, tennis and hiking.  I’m a huge football fan and my favorite team is Seattle Seahawks.  My most favorite thing, though, is to spend quality time with my family.  This may include bike riding to our favorite ice cream spot, a family date at a restaurant, a trip to the beach or a flight to a fun destination.  Through work travel I have been fortunate to see a lot of the world and can’t wait to bring my children along as well.

Kaleah is a Mama’s girl that loves to do crafts, bake, sing and dance.  She is kind and nurturing and eagerly awaits the role of ‘big sister.’  Kali would like to add, “Hi baby!  I’m going to teach you to walk and to be polite.  I’m gonna sing to you when Mama changes your stinky little bum! And I’ll give you smoochie-goochies!”

We couldn’t leave out our fur boy, Diesel.  He is the sweetest dog you will ever meet.  He’s short and stocky and full of sweet kisses.  He’s a celebrity in our area; he LOVES people and everyone loves him.  Diesel loves to go on hikes with Kali, bike rides with Daddy, and garden with Mama.  He really just loves to be with us, no matter what we are doing.  He is very patient, even while our daughter is busy accessorizing him for her “photo shoots.”

We are so lucky to live in a little slice of Heaven.  We built our home on an acre lot surrounded by trees and near four beaches that we frequent often.  Even though we live in tranquility we are only a 35 minute drive into Vancouver, a 10 minute drive to the hospital, and a short walk to a highly reputable preschool and elementary school. Right out our doorstep there are hiking trails filled with berry bushes that we love to go out and pick.  We have three deer that hang out at our house and have become part of the family.  Kaleah has named them Arie, Brown Sugar and Princess.  With such beautiful landscape surrounding us, Amanda is able to take lovely pictures of the family enjoying the outdoors.

Our extended family is also anxious to welcome another child into our fun loving family.  Duane’s side of the family lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He has a close relationship with his sister and they call each other almost daily.  His sister is always shopping for special little outfits for our daughter. Duane’s sister has an amazing 16 year old daughter that is extremely driven (she plans to be a heart surgeon) and is so kind and gentle to our daughter and is truly a wonderful big cousin.   The times that we have spent with them in Hawaii and how they are with Kaleah shows us how much they love having a little one around.  On Amanda’s side Kaleah has two cousins; our 4 year old nephew who lives a short drive away with Amanda’s sister, and 6 month old niece who lives in Princeton with one of Amanda’s brothers.  Kaleah is extremely close with her Auntie and cousin and we see them weekly for play dates.  We also spend a lot of time at Amanda’s parents house.  They are fortunate enough to have a pool so on hot summer days we have a family barbeque there, pop on the kids life jackets and we all enjoy a nice refreshing dip and a laughter filled water fight.

Our commitment to you

We understand the importance of open adoption but absolutely respect your decision if you want a closed adoption.  Should you want to keep in contact with us, we would be happy to meet with you, to send you regular updates including photos, artwork, and anything else that we feel you may enjoy in hopes that you can feel comfortable in your decision in choosing our family to love and support your baby.

We all are so excited for the chance to expand our family and create precious memories.  We love to spend time together as a family.  We travel extensively and we want to give our children as many cultural, educational and creative opportunities as possible.  We realize that in order for us to grow our family, another woman must make an incredibly difficult decision.  We are in awe of your strength in choosing what you feel is best for you and the life within you.   Should you feel that our family is the right one for your child, we promise to give your child a life full of love, opportunity, and adventure.

Lovingly,

Amanda, Duane and Kaleah
