Hello! We are Alex and Alex from Toronto!
We want to start by saying that we have an incredible amount of love and respect for you, no matter what path you choose for your child. We can’t put ourselves in your shoes, but we know it must be so difficult even to consider creating an adoption plan for your child. We want to thank you so much for taking the time to learn something about us. We hope you’ll consider us as potential adoptive parents as you make this decision for the future of your child.
We met over 10 years ago while traveling in India. For Alexander it was love at first sight, for Alexandra… first she had to get past the fact that Alexander showed up late to the airport and then nearly left his passport on the plane. Fortunately, his smile and ability to be calm under pressure won her over within a few days. Since then, we’ve been “Alex & Alex” to friends, family, and basically everyone else we meet (yes, we’ve heard every joke in the book!).
Since that first trip we have shared many milestones together: pursuing our careers, going to graduate school at Yale and building our home and life in Toronto. We still love to travel the world, and closer to home we love taking long walks or hikes, going to concerts, and checking out new neighborhoods in the city.
We have always dreamed of becoming parents and growing our family through adoption, and we’ve talked about it from early on in our relationship.
We have so much in common at our core – our values, our love of family, and our commitment to each other. We open one another up to new experiences through our different interests and personalities and can’t wait to do the same with our future child. We are both very close with each other’s extended families and feel strongly that we want our future children to have strong relationships with them as well.
We’ve had an amazing time over our first decade together and are so excited to begin growing our family through adoption.
I grew up in Toronto, went to U of T, and then graduate school at Yale in Connecticut. I started my career in the nonprofit world, doing leadership training in high schools, and leading student volunteer trips around the world. I’m now an entrepreneur, I launched my company earlier this year and it is growing quickly! One reason I decided to become an entrepreneur is to be able to be my own boss and have flexibility for our future family – my office is just two blocks (3.5 minute walk – I timed it) from our home! I’m a very social person so my hobbies aren’t very solitary – I love going to concerts and seeing all kinds of music (I’ve done many music festivals), and I love spending time with friends and family.
The first thing that I noticed about Alex was his laugh. He’s able to find the light side in almost any situation. But he’s also my rock, he’s incredibly supportive of me – and he’s also the person that his friends and family look to during difficult times.
Alex loves people – he’s always making new friends and catching up with old ones (it’s not unusual for him to double-book!). While he’s very social and loves to be out and about, he also loves to lose himself in a good book and absolutely loves movies.
One thing I love about Alex is just spending time together doing simple things, whether it’s taking a walk, making dinner together, or even just going to the mall.
I love watching Alex interact with children – he has such a beautiful, playful energy – and I know he’s going to be an amazing father.
I was born in Ottawa and I grew up in Quebec. I went to Queen’s University and then did my Master’s Degree at Yale University. I’m now a management consultant, working with leaders of some of the largest companies in Canada and the US. I’m a hard worker and I’m now in a leadership position that gives me flexibility, something very important to me as a parent. I like to stay active with things like Yoga and Pilates on the weekend, and I love interior design. I’m always rearranging our furniture because I find it so fun! I played many sports as a child (hockey, snowboarding, volleyball, rugby) and I look forward to all the activities I’ll be able to do with our future children.
After over a decade together, every day I find more that I love, respect, and admire about Alex. She truly amazes me.
She deeply cares about her friends and family and has an incredible ability to understand people. It’s like she can anticipate what someone is going through, and exactly what they need before they do. She’s so supportive of me and I’ve grown so much because of her.
She works hard at everything she does. She’s too humble to admit it, but I see how much she is respected by her colleagues and looked up to by the people around her. She also has a very playful, lighthearted, and funny side. I love all these sides of her! Also, she is a way better ice skater than I am…
I know that Alex is going to be an incredible mother and I am so excited to raise a child with her. I know she will love our children deeply and give them a wonderful life.
Family is incredibly important to us! Alexander is from a large family with 5 siblings and 5 nieces and nephews (4 of them under age 5) who all live within a short drive from us. His mom, Debbie, lives less than a ten-minute walk away, and his brother Jason just moved 2 blocks away)! Our family gets together very often – we love hosting brunches on our backyard patio – and because we have a very diverse family (Greek, Jewish, Filipino, Jamaican in just Alex’s immediate family) we celebrate many traditions throughout the year. We also love having our nieces and nephews over – they’ve had regular sleepovers and weekends over at our place since they were very young!
Alexandra’s sister Charlotte lives a short drive from Toronto, and her mother Susan a few hours away. Susan is so excited to be a grandmother and Charlotte can’t wait to be an aunt. Despite living a little further away, Alexandra and her mom Facetime nearly every day and Charlotte regularly visits Alex, whether for a sisters’ shopping day or to bring her two dogs to play with ours in the backyard. We also love to go back to Ottawa to visit Alexandra’s very large extended family – our favorite tradition is the annual hockey game and bowling tournament at Christmas time!
We both grew up very close to our cousins, and we’re very excited for our future child to be part of our diverse, loving, and close family with lots of young cousins (and more on the way!) that they will grow up so close to.
We love our dogs! We have two mini poodles, Henry (9) and Richard (10). Both of them are rescues, Henry is from Canada and Richard is from Connecticut. They absolutely love children – they have great patience for all the games that our nieces and nephews like to play, and Richard in particular loves nothing more than to cuddle up with the kids on the couch and watch a movie.
Our home is in a very family friendly neighborhood just east of downtown Toronto. We live near many parks, ravines and green spaces that we enjoy regularly, and we love being close to all the amazing restaurants and cultural festivals that the city has to offer!
We live in a cozy 3-bedroom home, right across the street from one of the best parks in the city (there’s even a playground, basketball court, tennis court, and hockey rink!). Many of our close friends and their young children live nearby – it almost feels like a small town within the city!
Thank you for taking the time to consider us as you make this difficult decision. We want you to know that we will love your child unconditionally. We promise to surround them with love and provide them with every opportunity to follow their dreams and explore their passions – with lots of laughter and fun along the way. We promise to raise them with a deep appreciation for who you are and the love that you have for them. We would love to stay in contact with you if that is what you desire however if not, we will respect and understand that too!
Thank you again for considering us.
